PORTRAITS by Lynne Marshall
"The stillness, liveliness and light
of inner consciousness pervades all of creation. My intention
in my portraiture is not merely to make an 'accurate likeness',
but to find and express this inner light."
To begin the process of painting a commissioned portrait,
there are two prepratory meetings. The procedure for these
meetings is as follows:
First meeting- 2 1/2 hours: INITIAL CONCEPTS AND
PHOTOGRAPHS:
This meeting is in two parts - the first takes
about one hour of uninterrupted time with you and the subject
to discuss your desires and intentions for the painting,
to show examples of portraits from my portfolio for style
possibilities, and to discuss size, pose, format, the possible
inclusion into the painting of meaningful/symbolic elements,
background ideas, color preferences and pricing. 1/3 of
the portrait fee is required to commence the portrait.
I will then take a series of photographs of the subject
in your home in various natural lighting situations. This
should take 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The subject should be rested
and comfortable. It is good to consider beforehand what
clothes he/she would be happy wearing, and be sure that
the haircut etc. is what you would like to see in the painting.
These photographs will be used as "sketches" and
so are not formal poses, and the backgrounds are not critical.
Second meeting: SELECTION OF IMAGES AND DECISION
MAKING:
After the photos have been developed, and I have selected
appropriate images for consideration and made some concept
sketches, we should meet again. This meeting will take about
one hour, to present the concept "sketches", incorporating
the ideas and principles that we had discussed in the first
meeting. This is the time for us to clarify and confirm
all the elements of the portrait (pose, composition, size,
background and details to be included).
The painting will be completed in my studio in 4 - 6 weeks.
Third meeting: PRESENTATION OF PORTRAIT:
When the painting is complete, I will schedule another meeting
with you for the presentation of the portrait for your approval.
If there are any refinements necessary, the portrait will
be delivered/shipped to you after the changes have been
made. (Shipping & handling is not included in the price
of the portrait).
Balance of fee is due on completion of the painting.
Framing advice is available if you wish.
