Our commissioned artwork is client-specific - refined and highly personalized (not just customized!) - and brings a whimsical, delicate energy of upliftment and light.

Each project demands an individual approach and we work in a wide range of styles, techniques and materials. Though many projects are done on site, we prefer to do most of the initial work in the silence of our studio in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina - it is our place of inspiration and dedication. But we always visit our clients' site at the beginning of the project and, of course, for the installation, when we take the work with us and do all the additional custom work to ensure a perfect fit.

Our work always generates an increased value to the house, garden or site, and we are very considerate about the financial investment made by our clients. That is why we make very clear financial agreements up front and make sure that all costs are transparent throughout the process - no hidden fees or additional charges at the end. No surprises. Of course, every project is unique and we will present you with the specific cost structure once we have completed the designs, before we start creating the full-scale work.

Here's the process:

We receive a request - either by phone, or, if you'd like to submit yours by e-mail please click here. The request can be for a decorating problem, a wall that is just too confined, a desire to "showcase" a special feature of your home, such as a mantlepiece, a fountain or garden sculpture, etc.

(For examples of projects we have done, see the Project Portfolio)

We'll follow up within 48 hours. We'd like to get back to you as soon as possible, as we know that once you have a wish for adding delight and magic to your environment through art, you'll want to see that creativity manifest!

"How to express the light, the silence, the bliss that just pours out of Lynne's and Elaine's art? How to express the simple ease and joy of interacting with them? How to express the amazing, continuous fascination with the art that we have purchased from them? It never grows stale. How to express the utter confidence we have that any commission would result in an absolutely first class work? In one word, it is simply marvelous."

- Bill & Anastasia Hurlin, Fairfield, IA

Free phone consultation to discuss the project: getting to know your artistic intention/desire/dream-wish

Our first meeting is a free consultation by phone to discuss and explore your request, decorator's problem or simply your wish or idea for a painting, trompe l'oeil, mural, sculpture or other 3D installation art piece. We can discuss personalized solutions for your home, office or garden as well as art pieces for special occasions.

"Elaine & Lynne are some of the most dedicated and professional artists I know. Their commitment to a project is one-pointed and the execution is sublime, far exceeding expectations. In the modern arena of commissioned art they are quintessential masters!"

- Rick Donhauser, Fairfield, IA

We then make arrangements for an on-site meeting with you - discuss travel dates and costs

Getting to know you & the site:
This is a wonderfully exciting part of the project! It is a time for us to meet together with you and 'brainstorm' about ideas and concepts for the project, and it is an opportunity for us to familiarize ourselves with the specific site/space and the environment, to take detailed measurements/photos and get copies of architectural plans if applicable.

Our intention is that, before we leave, we have clarified a design concept/direction from which we can begin working to create the designs. By that time we would know the scope of the project and can discuss the general range of the cost. Until we finalize the designs, however, we cannot give a final quote for costs of the whole project.

We will agree on Design Fee for next phase of the project.

The platform from which the entire project springs
After a period of inspired integration, during which we review, research and absorb all the information, we will create a design-proposal for you for the painting, mural, sculpture - (whatever the artistic solution or answer to your special request) - and detailed sketches and/or model.

So much of the whole project depends on this phase of creativity and exacting design. This is an important step that gives you the chance to envision and review the result, and for us to accurately determine the pricing for the entire project.

"What may not be evident in looking at her work is how satisfying it is to work with her. She is dedicated to working with her clients to ensure that their own vision is satisfied - and in my experience she starts with your own vision and then takes it to thrilling new heights."

- Craig Pearson, Fairfield, Iowa

Designs, models, etc. are sent to you for your approval.

After we have your approval on the design and pricing, we ask for a deposit ( a non-refundable retainer), and we work out a payment schedule for the balance of the project fee over the course of the work.

Creating the Artwork.

Once we have received your retainer we schedule work on your signature art in our studio - during the process you are very much involved, as we send you photos of the process. And of course you are always invited to visit the studio.

"Elaine kept me informed of her progress as she worked and invited me to viewings at various stages. The end result was truly sublime."

- Toby Lieb, Boone, NC

Bringing all the parts together.

For the installation phase, we deliver the artwork, assemble and install. To ensure that the on-site installation process is as efficient and smooth as possible, we take into account as many details and calculations as possible.

"I was truly touched and impressed by the incredible patience and skill which they used to install their work and to help me adapt the surroundings to the addition. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine how this Art could actually change and uplift my precious workspace, not only for myself but for my unsuspecting clients!"

- Juliet Monet-Bolka, Asheville, NC

Final payment is due on delivery

"We have never worked with anyone easier and kinder or more professional. Their art touches our lives and we would be delighted to talk to anyone considering the good fortune of working with Chip and Scribble Fine Art."
